In the spirit of your post, I received your insights with much joy. For among its many blessings, the gentle nudge toward mindfulness in writing suggested that precision guides us ultimately toward a generous communicative nature. And you underscored the value of candor which is sorely lacking these days although false intimacy abounds. Be well, my friend. And by that I mean, Rock on.
I write to you in the spirit of appreciation after reading your thoughtful piece. Fortunately the weather outside is frightfully frigid so reading your letter has been a wonderful excuse to dawdle in the warmth of my room. I especially enjoyed your employment of the word 'precision'. It can be used in so many contexts: how the vegetables will be chopped for tonight's dinner, how the tense of a verb can change everything, how a well aimed glare can throw proper shade on the intended victim. Today, I will dedicate myself to the concept of precision and see where that leads.
This goes along with my reading about, thinking on, and trajectory toward digital minimalism as of late. I think you’re right that our highly connected digital landscape begets a kind of intellectual and conversational laziness. We are expected to respond quickly to multitudes of short messages and be productive at levels unheard of in recent history. It leaves very little time for thoughtful communication or for the kind of attention that allows us to capture detail and retain it in the first place.
I’ll keep your questions in mind as I continue on my quest to re-capture my attention and slow the frenetic pace of life.

Dear Russell,

Your friend,
Jude
