I think, C.S. Lewis said, ~that truth exists throughout legends, myths, and religions so that we can recognize TRUTH when we see it. The fruits of those truths and TRUTH are how we differentiate between the two.
If you have not read "Human Accomplishment" by Charles Murray, it would be a wonderful compliment to your current reading--I would finish The Bhagavad Gita, The Bible and commentaries first. It shows the fruits for societies that follow different truths quite clearly, and Murray was surprised to see it show up in his data -- a friend told him it would be there.
