Beginning to Read The Bhagavad Gita and the Bible: Second Reflection

A beautiful moment every day

Toward the end of each “Bible in a Year Podcast” episode, Fr. Mike Schmitz says:

“Let’s pray for each other – all of us on this journey. Pray for each other. I am praying for you. Please pray for me.”

Each day, this moment brings a smile to my face and warmth to my heart. This is my favorite part of the podcast.

I find it wondrous that someone who doesn’t know me, my story, my background, or even my name prays for me. And somehow does have me in mind. I find it touching and poignant and simply nice.

The gesture makes me wonder if the brotherhood of humanity might actually be possible.

I know – that’s a silly, almost infantile dream. My hard-headed, cynical and sarcastic 47-year-old mind knows better. We are men and women divided – ideaology vs ideology, nation vs nation, religion vs religion, even sundered internally.

Let me stop there. I have nothing helpful to add beyond stating again – this daily call to prayer has become a beautiful moment in my day, every day.
